The Final Showdown by ~Artemis19:iconArtemis19:

The Final Showdown

After my spell to summon the storm was finished, I turned towards my fellow witches; Lauryl, who was on the guitar, and Malagent, who was on the piano. Their music from magicked instruments helped my spell greatly by telling the storm what to do and when to stop via sound. “Hopefully this will be enough rain so that w-Sarrasri! Sarrasri, Asuna and Negi don’t have to do sport.” The only reason we agreed to do the spell was because we didn’t want to do sport either, but one of the most important laws of Wicca, or witchcraft as it’s more commonly known, is to not use your powers for selfish reasons.
“Amen to that!” cried Lauryl as she summoned the only liquid she would ever consume, blood, something she had needed in the Shalebridge Cradle.
“Lauryl! Don’t use Christian phrases! Christians are the greatest enemies of Wiccans!” Malagent and I snarled at the same time. An owl hooted, startling us.
“Maybe we should go back to our dorm now. Lauryl? Evangeline?” It was all Malagent could not to run away then and there.  It then occurred to me how much the outstretched branches looked like the arms of the undead and Hammer Haunts that Malagent had to deal with previously. That was bloody scary according to her. Not as scary, though, as when she had to save Lauryl’s spirit from the Shalebridge Cradle, the orphanage-turned-mental-asylum Lauryl had died in. I still remembered the strain it had been for Negi, Asuna, Sarrasri and I to put Lauryl’s spirit in her newly healed body. Especially when Malagent was screaming that The Hag were still after her, after she had defeated The Hag, and Jaenelle, who had done the healing of Lauryl’s body, had passed out and we had to keep her alive as well! So, yeah, we’ve had pretty messed up lives so far.
“Okay Malagent, besides we need sleep before tomorrow, I mean before school today! Crap, the spell took all night.” We all stared at each other, then at the sunrise amazed that we had only just realized that it was already Friday when it seemed only five minutes ago that we started the spell at nine p.m. Thursday. After we had got over that, we trudged back to Crystal Tokyo’s High School of Magic.
***
The rain still hadn’t been enough. We all had to do the most hated subject at Crystal Tokyo’s High School of Magic, sport, which has nothing to do with magic at all! Even martial arts have more to do with magic than sport. Oh great, rock-climbing, happy days! The one task in sport that I fear, and as my last is Elric I was supposed to go third. Hadn’t they learned anything from last time? Heights and I don’t go together. Last time I got up there I lost control of my power and killed three students! Just before I had to go up, I felt strange – like I was being ripped apart and then reassembled. When the feeling passed I found myself in a very strange place.
“Evangeline?” at least I wasn’t alone; I turned around to see my little brother, Negi, standing there looking as confused as I felt. “Did you lose control of your powers again?”
“If that happened, we’d both know where we were.” That sort of teleportation had happened before and each time it did, we’d turn up in a place from our childhood.
“Touché. Eva, look out!” I felt winded when Negi tackled me. That’s when Lauryl, Malagent, Sarrasri, Jaenelle and Asuna all hit the ground where I had just been standing. When everyone had gotten up and stopped complaining, Malagent realized this was her home planet, Azakar. She then squealed, eyes wide open as though someone had taken advantage of her uncontrolled psychic hearing. I guessed that someone had. A shadow stirred. Just one glance at Lauryl’s face told me who it was; there was only one creature capable of conjuring so much hate on her face, the one who had killed her, The Hag.
As Malagent was still cowering in the corner I used my power to intercept telepathic conversations on her to find what The Hag was saying that was so scary. “My dear Malagent, you thought you killed me, but you were sso wrong; you can’t kill The Hag, darling, I AM magic. Kill me and desstroy magic.” A sibilant voice hissed. I couldn’t see who the voice belonged to. I didn’t need to.
“Malagent, we need your help to destroy this witch, so SNAP OUT OF IT!” I had to emphasize the importance of her help even though shouting would scare her more. Malagent had never shirked from her duty, no matter how scared she was. It was why she succeeded in rescuing Lauryl’s spirit from the Shalebridge Cradle.
“Who iss that?” Crap, I had forgotten to push The Hag out of the conversation.
“I am Evangeline, the Dark Evangel, perhaps you have heard of me.” I took a risk in using my mother’s titles.
“If you’re truly her, then you would be helping me.” The Hag was sceptical.
“…I’ve changed!” I had to have some hold on her.
“You are not her, yet you feel familiar” The Hag pondered for a moment. “You are her namessake daughter.”
“Crap! Malagent, we need your help now!” I felt Malagent stand up, her resolve strengthened. As the initial psychic conversation was severed I was pulled back down to reality.
“Now, I think I know of a way to defeat her, but we risk destroying magic.” Everyone turned around, startled at the fact Malagent was acting calm. Then came the full realization of the meaning of her words.
“Well, magic doesn’t have a good history, and none of us want to be burned at the stake by devout Christians.” Ever the business women, Sarrasri sorted out the pros and cons.
Asuna lost her patience “To hell with this! We know it’s for the good of mankind, we know the history of The Hag! Let’s kill this b-witch!” Asuna stopped herself before she put a bad influence on my ten-year-old brother.
“I’ll agree to that!” Lauryl got ready to fight.
“Wait! We can’t fight her physically; we need to totally own her via magic.” Malagent said hurriedly. “Use your most powerful magic attacks. Now! Brisingr-Fira!” Fire and starbolts escaped her palms.
“Ultima-Smite!” Lauryl’s trademark white magic blasted The Hag with her full strength.
“Sectemsempraisee!” Jaenelle’s spirit magic went rushing towards to The Hag.
“Zupitarian!” There went Sarrasri’s lightning.
“Sectemsempra!” And Asuna’s water and ice.
“Rastel Maskil Magister!” AND Negi’s wind archers.
“Azarath Metrion Alchemy!” Finally my darkness joined the fight. Then darkness was all I saw.

I woke up to see the headmaster’s face. “Is The Hag gone?” I asked.
“Yes, you did very well, but you should have told me; you wouldn’t be so weak then.” The headmaster laughed. I wondered why he wasn’t angry with me, though I couldn’t remember why he should’ve been angry. Then it hit me. Magic!
“What happened about magic? Is it gone?” I couldn’t believe I had forgotten.
“Relax, that was a bluff so The Hag could still live, she thought you would do anything to save magic. Especially after watching you this morning.” The headmaster looked proudly at me. “She didn’t count on you being true Wiccans.”
I was puzzled. Then it dawned on me. I had just demonstrated it this morning! “Do not use your powers for selfish reasons.” I quoted. “Never thought that would save the world from a fate worse than destruction.”
“Neither did your mother, then she meet your father, Negi: who your brother is a namesake of.”
“Guess they didn’t have a lot of imagination.”
“They couldn’t think of any other names for you two as you were so much like parents at birth. You still are, except you had a family to teach what was right and what was wrong.”
At that moment, the rest of the coven, as we called ourselves, came in. “She’s awake! Finally!” Crowed Asuna.
“You used more of your magic than I did. Usually I’m the one to pass out for days on end.” Lauryl was awestruck.
“Come on guys, it wasn’t that bad.” I suddenly felt sleepy.
That didn’t escape Jaenelle’s hawk-like eyes. “You still need time to recover. Go back to sleep Eva, don’t worry; we’ll collect your homework for you.”
“Oh, what great friends I have. I have no clue what I’d do without you.” My sarcasm escaped no one’s notice, not even Lauryl’s, the slowest person in history.
When everyone recovered from laughing, I asked: “You guys won’t tell anyone about this right? I think we have enough celebrity status for one lifetime.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll tell everyone that the sun has taken its toll on your vampiric blood. And you lost control of your powers and teleported us all back to Mahora Academy.” Negi shot down all my fears, and reference to our parent’s school calmed me.
“So mote it be.” Everyone quoted the final line of every common spell. The darkness took me again.

This is a draft of an English assignment that I had to completely rewrite as it was over the 500 word limit. You will find parts of it derivitive from computer games and manga, namely Thief: Deadly Shadows (game) and Negima! (manga). I've also used names and specific spellings used in other books e.g. Jaenelle from the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop. Apart from all that, I've been told it's good and I wanted a somewhat unbiased opinion from you.

Enjoy!^_^
